September 11, 2001 Flash Presentations

To honor the lives that were taken on this horrible day, and the truly indomitable spirit of America we have seen in the days since Tuesday, on 9/14/01 I put together a Shockwave Flash presentation as a tribute to the human spirit we have seen in the faces and actions of those in New York at this time. The presentation is a series of images from the tragic events of Tuesday September 11, 2001 and the following days. It does not contain graphic or disturbing images, but inspirational images of the reality for the people affected by this horror, and images that show how our country has shown her true American Spirit in the aftermath. All set to a stirring musical score. When you click the link, it will load enough to start playing, then continue to load while playing. As the images are synchronized to the music, I recommend you refresh the page after it is fully loaded so the synchronization will be maintained as I produced it. Please watch the presentation with someone you love, and please share the link with your friends and loved ones if you are moved by it in some way.

On 9/17/01 I produced another Flash presentation to remind us of some of the things that we hold as our symbols of America, and our deep love for her. When you click on the link the multimedia Flash presentation will open in a new window, and the presentation will load into the web page so it is displayed at the proper size. The presentation is a series of images of American historical buildings, monuments, symbols, and events. All set to a stirring patriotic musical score.

The Screensaver is a self-installing .exe file that contains the Flash file. When installed the Flash presentation  will run as a normal Windows screensaver. Both screensavers are guaranteed virus-free.

The Zip File contains the .htm page and the .swf Flash file. Unzip the files into a directory and open the .htm web page to view the presentation.

Due to numerous requests, I have also included the pictures and music from each in a .zip file for download.

Please feel free to download and share any of these items.

I hope you enjoy them, and you find meaning in them.

Steve

I have added a page with some of the more popular flash cartoons, and other presentations (not mine) that should touch you. Click HERE to view this page.

If you download any of the .swf Flash files, also download this nice Flash Player (guaranteed virus-free) to view them in their native size to preserve the integrity of the author's intended performance.

UPDATE: In May, 2002 I redid each presentation in Powerpoint format. These versions run much better than the original Flash versions, on different processors, and run at full screen. The music is not embedded into the presentation, so download the .zip file which contains the .pps Powerpoint file and the .mp3 music file. Unzip the two files into the same directory and run the .pps file.

I produced these Flash presentations on a Pentium III 533 mhz computer. They play properly on computers in this class. I finally had a chance to view them on a Celeron class system, and they play a little slow. If you play the .swf outside of the .htm page, and size the presentation down a bit (just resize your browser to a smaller size), or select them to play in "low" quality mode, they will play much better. I have viewed them on a Pentium 200 MMX, and the pictures transition way too slowly. A Pentium III class system is recommended.

I have received many questions regarding  the crying eagle image. I did not produce that image. It has been on the internet for a number of days, essentially released into the public domain. I do not know who's work it is, but I thank that individual for an image that has captured the nation. Thank you.

The presentations are in Shockwave Flash format, and contain an embedded .mp3 soundtrack. Some may not be aware of the soundtrack, so make sure your volume is turned up. The picture transitions may  become out of synch with the soundtrack due to your particular system. In that event, they are still very moving pieces. On slower systems, it is advisable to play the .swf alone and resize it to maintain the impact of the coming together of the music and the pictures.
